Evaluation


EVALUATION

For my assignment, I created a game that could move the character around but could only get one apple instead of two.  After collecting the 2 apples (which is quite impossible since you can only grab 1 out of the 2) it was suppose to say WINNER and the next task. I wanted to put in the instructions at the beginning but I wasn’t sure how. This made my game more confusing. 


To start of the evaluation process we had to create questions that we could ask our peers. Mr. Holmes gave us a few example questions that we could take and improve and make it our own so that it can be related to our game.

These were the example questions given:
  • List the good points
  •  List the  bad point
  •  How useful was it
  • Hows is the layout
  • List points on how to improve
These were my questions I asked my peers:
  • What do think the purpose of this game was ?
  • How can I improve this game?
  • Would this game be useful to you? why?
  • What are the goods and bads about this game?
When it was time to review our game, I had 4 people from my class to evaluate my game.
Caroline, Mats, Mr. Holmes and somebody else who never wrote their name.
Caroline:
1.Its easy to navigate
2. the other apple doesnt work
3. It shows you how to pick up apples in kodu
4. The layout is good
5. Couldve put winner when you pick up the apple
Mats:
The controls are simple and the layout is easy to use
no idea what it is about, or the point or what you are supposed to do
Put in more explanation and instructions
Mr. Holmes:
1. controls were easy
2. it didn't pick up the apple
3. no instructions
4. give appropriate instructions and have a clear outcome
Unknown Evaluator:
1. controls
2. confusing and doesn't work and needs instructions

4. needs instructions needs to be finished

From this, I have realized that without knowing before what my game was suppose to do, the gamer would be very confused and would not want to continue the game. I have also realized that in the game, I did not put any instructions, which makes it harder for the gamer to know the objective of the game and aim towards it.  

At the end, after all the evaluation given by my peers, I had some of my classmates to show me on Kodu, on the things I did not know how do on kodu. (putting the instruction) 


In all I think, creating this game was such a stress, due to the controls of the game. (It felt like it was just testing my patience) Though learning wise, I learned that its good to ask people for help whenever, and that when creating something to be detailed and organized in planning

    1. Sonia: Sure, its an adventure game, maybe you should make tasks for it to do.

What I have decided to do is to create a game that has to do with art. Since it is a very broad topic to go on, I have specified it to be teaching how to create an art portfolio through an adventure game. In the game - there will be a series of task given after each one is finished, the person in the game can get information, help and hints from others in the game. Once done with the task it would be put into the portfolio - building up the art projects and their learning. [Sketching, shading, etc]  To create this adventure game I would be using Kodu. This idea came to me when Mats told me about his idea on an adventure game on business and so I thought about doing an art portfolio adventure game. I chose this because, for one I myself am creating an art portfolio and it is my first. I have also realized that there are not many sites / videos to give you step by step guidance to create your own portfolio and this is my reason for starting one as a game to allow yourself to "physically" create one.

For the past week, I have been trying to download Kodu on my laptop so that I could use and work on it at home. But the download seems to not open, so this is where I am having difficulties of trying to work not only at school but at home.

and work on my landscape background. Finally I got the land connections towards all the different lands around my world. Most of the time I was struggling to make my game character move forward.
Process: ask friends who knew a lot more about creating games

Task: using the virtual creations and changing them a bit.                                       
I took a world that was already made and began to edit the world so that it could be almost as close to what I wanted it to be.

Design / Plan

What I have decided to do, is to create a game that has to do with art. Since it is a very broad topic to go on, I have specified it to be teaching how to create an art portfolio through an adventure game. In the game - there will be a series of task given after each one is finished, the person in the game can get information, help and hints from others in the game. once done with the task it would be put into the portfolio - building up the art projects and their learning. Final Reflection

Design:
At the beginning of the unit we had to create blog on Gmail – Blogger- and for that class time we had to get use in using it. We needed to make it our style and the title had to be random. Before we even began our poster we talked about our blogs themes and background. We discussed about our blogs and how we could make it better and simple. We began to create a poster by using Adobe Photoshop, which wasn’t much help as I knew nothing about Adobe. We then began to learn about contrast and at the same time repetition, at the end of each lecture; we would go on to our computers and work with our poster by using contrast and repetition. We would then write about it and also give a small definition on what contrast and repetition meant. Once we could understand this we moved on to the rule of alignment and proximity. He used many of our posters and blogs on how that rule was used. Are the entire edges of the poster/blog 1 cm apart? Is it aligned so that the audience can read? We went back to try these rules out. For the next few classes we then began to watch parts of movies to understand the rule of thirds and hierarchy. And the pauses we would say it would either relate to the rule of thirds or the rule of hierarchy.  We had to upload pictures that used either the rule of thirds or hierarchy. We began to talk about color, referring it back to contrast too. In our blog we had to include a color wheel. So every time we’re working on our poster we would have easy access on a color wheel. We then worked on fonts. As one of our homework’s we had to find a cool font tutorial that you could create in Adobe and also show it to the class, then try it out.
Create:
By the time that was done we had to begin our summative assessment, but before we could even begin we had to look at a few posters from Mr. Holmes old school and a few random ones, we also had to rate them. I loved the graffiti poster and it look so real I took that as my challenge for my summative. We had to draw out our basic format that we were going to use throughout the 3 posters we were making for the IB Learner Profiles. My initial poster was to have a street wall as my background, IB learner profile and also a picture both in graffiti.  Once I got a confirmation from Mr. Holmes I began with Reflective. But first I had to find a wall as my basic background. I found a very simple wall and type my word reflective on there. I had to make it look real so I added effects onto there and then decreased the opacity to about 50 – 60%, so you could also see the texture of the wall. I showed it to Mr. Holmes and he suggested to me to change the background of a wall with people walking down the street, and so I did. It came out perfect. Then I began with my other two IB Learner Profiles which were Balanced and Thinkers. I was struggling with the fonts since I could not remember what font I used so I used another basic font and added the effects and decreased the opacity. Even though the fonts weren’t the same, everything else was great.
Attitude:
My project of 3 posters for the IB Learner Profiles was a success and I am very happy with the results from the product. I am also very pleased with myself, for learning adobe very quickly and taking the time to get used to it at home. I was very happy to learn this but in a different way. At the beginning I was soo frustrated with the way Mr. Holmes taught because it was so different. But now at the end of this first unit, I felt that he taught us in a way that it would engage us and it wouldn’t be boring.  It was a learning and teaching style I liked now.

Thirds:
  1.  power shown from left to right and top to bottom
  2. Use of grid and intersections.
Hierarchies:
  1. object and people about of in front have greater power/importance.
 Contrast:
  1.   use of darkness and brightness to emphasize objects, create mystery, suspense.
Repetition:
  1. For emphasis, reinforcement BUT Keep It Simple Stupid! 
Alignment:
  1. Things are the aligned with one another - no widows or orphans.
Proximits:
  1. Things are equal distance from one another and the edges of document.

Done on Adobe but the problem i could not resolve was how to soften the edges of the butterfly picture. I hope I got it right this time!!
